Idaho 30 minutes from our last place in Boise. It was quite the trek to get here. We picked up the Uhaul at 7pm the Friday a
week before Christmas. Our hopes were to
get the truck loaded with all of our items for the storage unit and get it
unpacked at nights end.
Again they were hopes.
By the time it was loaded and ready to go to the storage unit which is
only a mile down the street, it was 10:00 at night. We were beat so we called it a night. Since the truck was sticking out into the
street we though it would be best to pull it further into the driveway. We soon learned that the truck wouldn’t be
going anywhere it wouldn’t start and was plagued with a dead battery.
Uhaul wasn’t going to send assistance until the morning, so
we really wouldn’t have been able to get the job done that night anyhow. Our hopes were to get it unloaded first thing
and then load up again with all of our items that would be going with us to Caldwell (mostly furniture,
every day kitchen stuff and food storage).
We had a slower start than anticipated and between waiting
for roadside assistance and help to unload we got the storage unit packed full
by 11:00am. We were excited that one
more task was completed.
As we were preparing to leave we attempted to close the back
door on the moving truck it wouldn’t close.
It had come off the track and wasn’t going anywhere. We finally decided to just leave it open and
get to our house and see if we could find some tools that might help out. The hubs gets back in the cab of the truck
and again, dead battery. We had let the
truck run for 45 minutes as we instructed and it didn’t seem to do the
trick. When the first technician showed
up he said the battery was at a low 9 volts.
Which is the size battery I use in my alarm clock!
Only a mile from our house and we have not completed the last half of
our move. I was frustrated. We had a few more people show up to help us
with the next leg of the move and we had no truck to load. We had to leave it at the storage unit, since
it didn’t start. So in hopes we would
have a different truck soon we started moving everything into the garage and
waited and waited to hear back from Uhaul.
In the mean time I had to call the storage unit’s office and
let them know we had a truck that wouldn’t start blocking several storage
units. They were fine and weren’t worried about the inconvenience. This particular office also rents Uhaul’s so
I asked if they had a 26 footer available and they did so they put one on hold
for us if we were not able to get our truck started again.
Road side assistance came 1 ½ hours later and let us know
that the truck wasn’t going to hold a charge.
The repair man fixed the non-closing door and also did a quick
inspection of the truck. On inspection
he noticed that the breaks were in bad shape.
He told us not to drive the vehicle because it was not safe. We quickly called the Uhaul office and were
again waiting to hear back from a manager.
Another hour had passed and our help needed to get back to their lives
and we were loosing daylight.
The Uhaul office we had rented from was anything but helpful
or accommodating, we were experiencing a dysfunctional haul! We are not happy customers!!! They didn’t want to give us a different truck
and we needed to get moving!! We weren’t
going to drive a truck that we were told not to drive due to bad breaks, and
the battery issue was a factor! We
needed a truck and we needed it now. The momma bear was coming out in me, it
had been several hours of waiting on Uhaul, and I had had it. We were not getting anywhere and we were not
hearing back from the office we were supposed to be working with. Since they weren’t returning our calls we
went ahead and decided to get the truck our storage unit had set aside for us.
truck didn’t move after a mile of use, we felt like we shouldn’t have to pay
for it. They offered us a VIP rate,
which was a very small discount, but we were not able to get anywhere with
their truck!! It just doesn’t make sense
We are still disputing the charges. They have accused us of abandoning the truck
and are charging us for two days of use.
I can hardly call it abandonment when we called them a dozen times
trying to get help, and we dropped off the keys before the second day! As you can tell I am still super annoyed with
this Uhaul office. They have definitely
lost a customer. And we will be moving
again in March!
So after an exhausting day with Uhaul, we did end up getting
all moved into Grandma’s house late into the evening. We had some kind souls
who gave up their day to help make it possible.
Thank you so much!!!! We couldn’t have done it with out you.
We ended our day with a beautiful setting sun welcoming us
to welcoming us to Caldwell,
our new home Grandma I’s house. Stay
tuned seeing how we are getting settled in!
