Good bye cute home on C. Street! I will miss your giant tree in the back yard,
the ducklings on the other side of the fence in the spring, and the windows
that let in so much light! You will be
missed and have been such a special home to our family!
Today is our moving day.
Okay here the situation….. We
decided to get crazy about getting 100% debt free. In order for us to do this we are going to
have to down size and live life in tighter circumstances. Given the hubs unemployment over the past six
months we have been faced with cold harsh reality that we are going to have to
move to a smaller home with a smaller mortgage payment. Ummmm, yeah and the fact that we don’t have a
permanent job also brings about harsh realities.
Our current mortgage is nearly $1200/month and without a
steady job making that payment is going to be near impossible. So instead of
getting into trouble financially we decided to let it go. We are letting go in an emotional
sense, rather than a financial sense. We don’t need a four bedroom
house, with a loft in the suburbs with a beautiful yard and garden to be happy
or to be comfortable. We are letting go
by leaving this warm haven and renting it out (for our asking price of
$1200/mo.). We have found a family that
will live and love our cozy house until the market picks up with the hopes we
can sell it for what we paid four years ago.
I feel so blessed to have found a renter who is so excited to live in
our house. I just hope they fulfill
their end of the lease.
Six months ago right before the hubs lost his job my Uncle G
came knocking at my door. He had heard
that we are interested in purchasing more properties for investing and his
exact words were, “I want to make you an offer you can’t refuse.” My Uncle G is a soft spoken man who generally
keeps to himself and is quite introverted.
He is nearly 70 years old and has never married and leads a quiet,
private life. He was referring to
his small home in East
Boise near the University.
He sold it to my brother a few years back and due to bad economy he
recently had acquired the property back into his name.
The price he offered me for his little two bedroom home with
a second one bedroom home on the property, was shockingly great! He wanted to sell me the two parcels for the
value of the land. Which was $15,000
less than what I thought he would offer to us (I had heard he wanted to sell it to us).
This might just be the miracle we had been hoping for to help us step
closer to becoming 100% debt free.
There were only two conditions, it had to be a completed
transaction before this years end and he wouldn’t carry the loan. I either had to pay cash or find a way to get
a loan. I was excited with the
opportunity. Knowing this would take
every penny we have set away we wanted to make sure we explored all our options
before we took the plunge. We also knew
that the hubs new job was on the rocks and we didn’t want to use up all our
reserve just in case he lost his job.
Turns out he the hubs did lose his job and so this changed up our
Blessings of blessings…We are signed yesterday and closed on the
property. It took us six months of
heeing and hawing before we felt comfortable to make this leap. We are unable to get a loan due to the
unemployment, but we are blessed to have a way to scrounge up enough to pay for
it outright (Thanks to a small loan and our reserve!!)
Like I said, today is our moving day. Even though I crave a simpler life, I just
don’t know how to get there yet! Instead
of moving into our cute tiny home on M. Street we are temporarily moving to my
Grandma’s home in Caldwell. She passed away last month and the house would otherwise be vacant, until sold.
The current tenants in our tiny home want to stay through
the winter and since we have had a lot of uncertainties financially we could
use their rent money for a couple months.
So half our stuff will go to storage and the other half will go with us
to Grandma’s. We are blessed to pay a
minimal rent to the estate of my Grandmother before they put her cherished
family home on the market.
So the adventure continues!
Stay tuned to see how we get settled in!
What do you do to live more simply, Please give me your
tips!!! Heaven knows I need all the help
I can get!!
