Tales Of A Mountain Reunion

While the hubs was recovering from his vertigo episode a few weeks back, I decided to brave the great outdoors and take the kids to a family reunion for my dads side of the family. We stayed at Alturus Lake in the Sawtooth wilderness.

We stayed in primitive one room cabins and had a old lodge for lounging and cooking. It was a great step up from our usual tent camping family reunions. Since I was one of the last families to arrive and the cabins had all been spoken for I bunked it with my sister, brother-in-law and their four kids. They were gracious to let us crash their cabin!! And I mean gracious (with two early risers and sometimes fussy kiddos!!)

Our lovely Cabin (photo credit my niece Rylee):

I decided since Lil’Miss was in her element I would let her be the free spirit that she is. At least I tried to let loose as much as possible. Since she is such a free spirit, I still had to keep a close eye on her. She only escaped once where I had to send out a cousin search party. Thank goodness for lots of helpful cousins. She was found running down the hill away from camp winding between cabins. Who knows how far she would have ventured had we not gone out looking. Since I was flying solo parent for the weekend, there were many helping hands, thanks to a great family!

She loved running down the hill. Surprisingly there were only a couple crashes.

She loved opening the creeky cabin door going in and out…. But mostly out.

She loved playing with and following cousins.

She loved the little six inch stream that meandered around the camp. She played and splashed in it for what seemed like hours.

She loved the dirt. Boy did she love the dirt!! She dug, sifted, threw and even ate the dirt. She was in dirt heaven!!

Lil’Bean was a patient soul and spent a great deal of time in his stroller. Lots of cousins were helpful with him too.

My brother was in charge of games. We played a few rounds of tug-o-war and some gunny sack races. The kids raced, then the couples went for it.

Good times were had by all. The hubs got the rest he needed while we were away and I was happy to return to home although the fresh air was nice.

Happy Camping!
