Time flies! Lil’Bean turns five months old today! He has grown so much. He has tripled his birth weight and has become a round, healthy little guy. There is no telling that he was born prematurely (click for birth story). What a little blessing he is to our family.
Over the past month he has mastered smiling and is starting to laugh more and more. He tried his first solid foods (rice cereal, sweet potatoes and apple sauce) with his favorite being apple sauce.
His motor skills are coming along, he tries to sit up by himself when he is laying down on his back. His trunk strength is increasing. He can sit with the assistance of the boppy and a blanket. He does much better at his tummy time and now lifts his head to look around. Sometimes I will lay him on a bolster with his arms forward face down. He lifts his head and props up on his knees. It looks like he is gearing up to crawl (although I think that will be several months down the road). He is grasping toys that we put in/near his hands and will hold and “play” with them for a few minutes. He loves to grasp his blanket, but he doesn’t love it when he pulls it over his head and can’t get it off.
He puts his hands in his mouth and chomps and slobbers. Teeth are also in our near future, although I haven’t felt any yet. He also just grasps his hands together and explores his fingers, staring as he wiggles them.
He is a sweet little boy and is becoming more social with those around him. His sister is who makes him laugh most. I will find her every once and a while playing and talking with him and he gives her his full attention. I think they are going to be great friends.
Lil’Miss will be two in a week! She is really developing in her language. She repeats words throughout the day, especially when we read books together. Although she has several words, her favorite word is “hello”. She loves to shout it out to the neighbor girls as they jump on their trampoline or when she chases the neighborhood cat “titty” as she calls it, or sometimes just when she is running around the house. It sounds a bit more like, “Hey dough!!” There is a certain place in the front and in our back yard you can get an echo if you talk loud enough. She loves to shout “Hey dough!” over and over and over. She giggles and is so pleased with the reverberation. She also loves to greet others when we are out and about with, “Hi Dare” (Hi there). She is so fun and friendly. I definitely think she will be a social bug.
Lil’ Miss still loves to get outside as much as possible. Even this week where she has been quite sick, she has longed to get outside. When weather permits we try to get out often. She is a curious soul that loves to investigate things. She played almost an hour near her swing set as I did yard work last week, she just dug around and explored all the bits of left over fall on the ground.
Some of her other favorite things:
Exploring and getting into trouble!
Brushing her teeth, “Brush Teet”
Grooming “Brudder” as she picks lint from his toes!
Cooking with Mommy, here she is finishing off brownie batter.
Just being plain ol’ silly!
Her favorite veggie of the month: Soy beans… she just can’t get enough!
It is great fun to seem my kids grow a little more each month. I am so grateful to be a mom!
