I haven’t been blogging lately. I find myself not even turning the computer on some days. A big change from my normal self.
It was close to a month ago where I partook of my first garden harvest, Swiss Chard.
I have never eaten chard before. I guess it is a member of the spinach family. I thought it was such a beautiful vegetable that I wanted to give it a try.
Even Lil’Miss got in on the garden action and drug around this stem of chard one afternoon that she dug out of the trash, silly little girl!
I decided to sauté the chard in olive oil with onions. It tasted a little like a mix of beets with the texture of spinach. It looked much prettier than it tasted. My weak pregnant stomach was able to handle it though, but it wasn’t a favorite.
I planned to give away what I had picked. I gave some to my in-laws and was going to take the rest to church. Through the summer there is a table usually set up in the foyer with garden extras to share with those who are not able to grow a garden. Sadly I didn’t remember to take it to church and the remainder went bad on the bottom of my fridge. So much for sharing the pretty chard!
