Birthday planning! I have been busy! Lil’Miss turned one! We took her to the zoo on her birthday with her little friend “J”. It was a beautiful warm day full of sunshine. I think she liked watching the people as much or more than seeing the animals. She is such a people person.
She did however like watching the giant tiger as it laid against the viewing glass.
My favorite were the giraffes. They are so graceful as their heads bob and their knees knock. I think the hubbers favorite was the Komodo Dragon.
The day prior to Lil’Misses birthday I made cakes. I got the idea of doing a giant lady bug. I gave my first shot at marshmallow fondant. I used the fondant for the body of the ladybug. For the spots I used 100 Calorie Oreo Cakesters. I made a small cake for the head of the ladybug, but it fell apart when I tried icing it, so I ended up using a cupcake. I still had a hard time keeping it together. The third time is a charm. I used a sliced jelly bean for the eyes and Chinese noodles for the antenna.
Because I had so many left over jelly beans I decided to take baby food jars and fill them up and give them out as little favors.
Lil’Miss loved eating her cake. The first thing she did was put her face down into her cake. She ate the whole cake and even shared a little bit with her cousin.
Stay tuned for a giveaway in celebration of Lil’Miss turning one.
