So I heard that you can “melt” Starburst candies to use as a fondant or decorating icing. I wanted to try this out.
First I took the candy and softened it in the microwave for 10 seconds. That wasn’t quite long enough so I tried it for 15 seconds, which seemed to be a bit better.
I then worked the candy by rolling it out. I used my ice cream scoop. You had to work with it quickly because it quickly hardened.
I tried placing it on one of my mini cupcakes and I don’t think it worked too well.
So I decided to use a decorating tip to “punch” out some circles to make daisies.
It was labor intensive so I decided to make just two.
I used the yellow starburst to make mini coins for my St. Patrick’s Day cupcakes. I just rolled the softened starburst into a small ball then flattened it. It was a bit sticky and hard to place on the cupcake with out messing up the icing.
