With the recent earthquakes in Haiti and Chile, the importance of being prepared for natural disasters lingers.
I have heard of using rubbing alcohol to create your own small heater. I did a little research and created one for our family.
– roll of toilet paper
– bottle of rubbing alcohol 70% or 90% (the 90% will burn hotter)
– can (large size that peaches come in)
– small formula can
-book of matches.
-Take the cardboard tube out of your roll of toilet paper, then squish your toilet paper into the metal can.
-Make sure your toilet paper is below the rim. The toilet paper will work as your wick.
-Then place your metal can inside of your formula can. Tape matches inside the lid.
-Store in trunk of your car or other handy place. With the bottle of rubbing alcohol.
When needed pour alcohol on the toilet paper until saturated. Then drop a lighted match in. The can will get very hot, and in an emergency can be a heat source.
