The fabric reminds me of my grandpa’s overalls that he wore as he worked out on the farm which inspired this apron dress for my 9 month old. I added ruffles on the pocket to make it a little more girly.
Here is how it was done….
I picked apart all of the seams except for the sides of the leg. I wanted to reserve as much fabric as possible (I may make a second dress for her cousin). When I re-make clothing I like to try to use hems or other areas that I may not have to re-sew later. So I left the bottom hem as well.
Trim the shorts straight across to make the skirt.
I sewed down the side so it was no longer tapered and trimmed.
Use a wide straight stitch and stitch across of the top of the short leg to make a slightly gathered skirt.
Reused the waist band to create dress waistband. Pin and stitch.
I also created a small pocket and cut some small strips to make ruffles.
